By: Adam Piccin Otterbein PRSSA Immediate Past President Four Otterbein University public relations students have been working for the Lewis Center Business Association (LCBA) to put their public relations skills to work to promote the LC Summer Bash & Fireworks set to take place at Olentangy High School on July 4. The main attraction this year is a concert featuring the headliner, multi-platinum recording artist Gavin DeGraw, along with local bands, Liberty Deep Down from Powell and New Hollow from New Albany. "Working for this event has been really exciting," Otterbein junior and event intern Brooke Nagorski said. "I feel like I've been gaining real-world experience in entertainment public relations and marketing, and I am really glad I've gotten this opportunity." Otterbein students first got involved when senior and PRSSA immediate past president Adam Piccin reached out to help with the event. From there, the LCBA hired Piccin to be programs manager for its July 4 event to take place at the high school he attended. “As an Olentangy High School alumnus, I am so excited to see such a fun, exciting event taking place at the high school I went to on the Fourth of July, and I am even more excited to be a part of it,” Piccin said. “I’ve always wanted to do something entertainment-related, so this is a great professional experience for me, and it just so happens to be on my home territory.” Piccin's responsibilities included executing a five-part business plan to increase event ticket sales that he proposed to LCBA board members. He was in charge of recruiting, hiring and supervising a team of 10-15 interns and ambassadors to promote the event along with implementing strategies and tactics to achieve set goals and objectives for the event. In addition to enlisting Nagorski as an intern, Piccin got Otterbein seniors Kristen Pellington and Audrey Vrancken, Otterbein PRSSA treasurer, to both be a part of his team. Unlike the LCBA’s past Independence Day fireworks shows, this year’s event has been moved from Alum Creek State Park to Olentangy High School’s Braves football stadium located at 675 Lewis Center Road, Lewis Center, OH 43035. The event has transformed majorly since last year, changing from just a fireworks show to now a festival, concert and fireworks show after DeGraw finishes his set. I can't wait to see how it all turns out next month, and if you're in Columbus on the Fourth of July, get your tickets soon before they sell out," Nagorski said. Additional information on the LC Summer Bash & Fireworks can be found on the event's Facebook page, Gavin DeGraw's website or the Lewis Center Business Association's webpage.
